Cumbe, The Center for African Diaspora Dance

In honor of Black History Month, we welcomed Cumbe, The Center for African Diaspora Dance to join us for an educational and interactive performance. During the performance, we saw traditional West African dance and drumming and learned about djembe and dun dun drums. Along with drumming and singing, we learned “the little drum dance” and danced with our guests!

In the weeks leading up to Cumbe’s performance, and as our learners have been discussing Black History, Evan has been exploring West African music in his music studio. Having played the drums themselves with Evan, it was such a special experience for us to hear and see professional musicians perform in person!
