Admissions Process

Join members of our administrative team for an hour-long virtual introduction to The Washington Market School. 

This session is a required part of the admissions process and may be completed before or after submitting your application. Sessions are offered monthly throughout the admissions season; click here to register for the date and time that works best for you.

Please note: We strongly encourage families to attend a Virtual Information Session prior to your in-person School Visit.

There is a $75 non-refundable application fee. The fee is waived for families applying for tuition assistance. Please contact admissions@wms-nyc.org with any questions.

Session Preference: In the application, you will indicate your family’s session preference (morning, afternoon, or full-day, depending on your child’s age). You can learn more about our sessions on our Programs Page.

The vast majority of our new families who choose a half-day session will join us for their first year in our afternoon session.

Sibling and Legacy Applicants: Upon submitting an application, you will be contacted with next steps in the admissions process for connected families. Sibling/Legacy Families are eligible for Early Notification. 

Sibling/Legacy applications submitted after November 26 will be considered in our General Application pool.

Tuition Assistance: As a nonprofit organization, we value all forms of diversity in our community. Every year, we raise and award funds for our Tuition Assistance Program. Families apply for Tuition Assistance via Clarity Financial Aid.

After you submit an application, you will be prompted to schedule your School Visit. Please note: We strongly encourage families to attend a virtual information session prior to your in person School Visit.

School Visits take place in small groups of 3–4 applicant families. You’ll tour our beautiful campuses, observe classrooms in action, and see our studio spaces, libraries, and gyms.

After the tour, you will take part in a group conversation with other prospective parents and our enrollment team. This is a chance to share more about your family and ask any questions you may have about our school.

Applicants to the 3s-5s who are currently enrolled in a preschool program are asked to submit a school report.

Applicant families have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding about The Washington Market School by attending additional events, both community-oriented and parent-specific. Learn more here. 

Families are notified of our admissions decisions in accordance with ISAAGNY guidelines, as WMS is a member school. 

The sibling/legacy applicant pool is notified on December 5 with a parent reply deadline of December 12 at noon.

The general applicant pool is notified on February 26 with a parent reply deadline of March 5 at noon.
