As a long-standing non-profit, neighborhood school, accredited by the New York Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS), WMS is executing this thoughtful, community-driven strategic plan that will ensure we remain relevant, responsive, and in strong health for years to come. Alongside this vision, we have built detailed internal implementation plans that will serve as our road map for the next five years.

Purpose

The Washington Market School is an exceptional independent preschool known as a leader in early childhood education, with deep roots in Tribeca.

Since our founding in 1976, WMS has been a place where children and their families are honored and cherished. We have preserved our small school atmosphere while growing from one classroom in founder Ronnie Moskowitz’s home to a thriving institution with two sites. The Montessori and Reggio-Emilia philosophies are central to our identity and purpose. As we approach our 50th anniversary, WMS aims to highlight our leadership in early childhood education in Lower Manhattan and beyond.

Educators

The Washington Market School attracts, supports and retains exceptional educators.

Exceptional educators (including all faculty and staff) are fundamental to the success of WMS and directly shape the experience and growth of our children. By investing in our educators, we will ensure that our community continues to benefit from the expertise, innovation, and continuity that we bring to our work every day.

Journey

The Washington Market School offers an innovative and responsive program that seamlessly and collaboratively guides children and their families through every stage of the preschool experience from admissions to public and independent school exmissions.

At WMS, the educational journey is a shared experience for children and their families. Rooted in our philosophy of following the child, our skilled educators meet each child where they are and guide them to gain essential life and academic skills with strength, preparedness, and a deeply held curiosity to keep learning.
