Position Summary
The Associate Teacher Position will serve as a key member of the teaching faculty. Teaching teams consist of three teachers in each classroom and the Associate Teacher must be able to collaborate with others to support the learning and development of our young learners, as well as support the families in the community.

Primary Responsibilities
- In collaboration with the teaching team, plan developmentally appropriate activities in each of the curriculum areas of the Montessori and Reggio prepared environment;
- Create documentation that coordinates with classroom curriculum;
- Engage in studio classes (art, music, chess, movement and drama and library);
- Through mission-appropriate methods, ensure that children’s actions and interactions promote an environment conducive to meaningful, respectful and focused learning;
- Ensure that the classroom environment is clean, organized and clutter-free;
- In collaboration with the teaching team, help to ensure that equipment and materials are kept in excellent condition;
- Follow both DOH and WMS guidelines to provide ongoing safety in the classroom, to include vigilance around student allergies;
- Communicate with parents with support from the teaching team;
- Write the Daily Post for parents with the support of your team;
- Follow the guidelines for completing individual children’s portfolios;
- Reply to emails within 24 hours of receipt so as to maintain excellent communication with the school and families;
- Support children’s individual learning plans;
- Complete written work for school reports and parent conferences;
- Participate at parent conferences;
- Display respect and empathy for students by maintaining confidentiality, tact, and consistency and with them and their families;
- Participate in scheduled staff meetings, training sessions, etc with a mindset towards ongoing professional growth and development;
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree;
- Montessori classroom experience preferred (Hires made post 4/1/23 must either hold a Montessori credential or commence training within 2 years of hire date).
- 2 years experience working full time with children ages 2-5 in a preschool or daycare setting;
- Complete all required Department of Health paperwork including background check, health form and trainings before the first day of school for children;
- Ability to lift as much as 35 pounds;
- Ability to navigate stairs without assistance;
- Ability to stand, stoop, bend and sit on the floor for long periods of time;
- Ability to work in-person.

- Ensure planning meetings happen regularly and implement developmentally appropriate activities in each of the curriculum areas of the Montessori and Reggio prepared environment;

Engage in studio classes and collaborate with studio teachers (art, music, chess, movement and drama and library) about classroom curriculum; - Through mission-appropriate methods, ensure that children’s actions and interactions promote an environment conducive to meaningful, respectful and focused learning;
- Design and maintain a thoughtfully prepared, aesthetically beautiful, organized and clean environment that mindfully incorporates Montessori works and Reggio-inspired provocations;
- Ensure that equipment and materials are kept in excellent condition;
- Follow both DOH and WMS guidelines to provide ongoing safety in the classroom, to include vigilance around student allergies;
- Set the tone and lead on communication with parents in collaboration with team members;
- Write the Daily Post for parents while drawing upon knowledge of child development;
- Observe and evaluate each child's progress by documenting and developing child portfolios to be shared during conferences and given to the child at the end of year;
- Follow the guidelines for completing individual children’s portfolios;
- Reply to emails within 24 hours of receipt so as to maintain excellent communication with the school and families;
- Collaborate with outside providers, such as OT’s and SLP’s, if a child needs individualized plans
- Plan for parent conferences with team members;
- Write parent conference notes and summaries;
- Write School Reports that accurately and thoughtfully describe children’s strengths and areas to grow;
- Write School Reports that are sent out to schools;
- Display respect and empathy for students by maintaining confidentiality, tact, and consistency and with them and their families;
- Participate in scheduled staff meetings, training sessions, etc with a mindset towards ongoing professional growth and development;
- Ensure daily job responsibilities are communicated with the teaching team and carried out on a daily basis,
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- BS in Early Childhood or related field approved by Department of Health;
- Masters Degree in ECE preferred;
- Knowledge of Reggio Emilia philosophy and experience preferred;
