Admissions Updates
Monday, January 23rd will be the last day to submit a tour request form online for the 2012-2013 admissions season. Thursday, January 26th is the final day to tour The Washington Market School before the application deadline on Tuesday, January 31st. Thank you for your understanding.
Please note a few important date changes for returning and sibling/legacy children.
- Contracts for returning students will be mailed Friday, January 20th and will need to be returned by Monday, January 30th.
- Contracts for sibling and legacy children will be mailed Monday, February 6th and will need to be returned by Tuesday, February 14th.
Session Choice Forms for returning students will be mailed on Wednesday, January 4, 2012. These forms need to be returned by Friday, January 13, 2012. Please call the Admissions Office with any questions about any of the above dates.
Tours are now available for Duane Street parents who are considering a move to Hudson Street for the 2012-2013 school year. Tours will take place between now and December 15th and can be scheduled in the admissions office, over the phone, or by email. Please call 212-406-7271 or email s.markel@wms-nyc.org to schedule your tour as soon as possible.
The 2s lottery (for children between the ages of 2.00-2.06 in September 2012) took place last week and results were emailed to all participating families on Thursday, October 13th. Thank you to everyone who participated in our first lottery! Please note that as of October 7, 2011 we are no longer accepting tour requests for children in this age group. Thank you for your patience throughout the lottery process.
The Washington Market School has some availability at Hudson Street for the 2011-2012 school year. These spaces are for four year old children. Please call the admissions office to learn more about the application process.
Diversity Statement
All member schools of ISAAGNY (Independent School Admission Association of Greater New York) admit students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sexual orientation, national and ethnic origin in administration of our educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and other school-administered programs.
Financial Aid
The Washington Market School is a non-profit, non-sectarian Early Childhood Center. Our School actively raises funds every year for its Financial Aid Program. Tuition Assistance is awarded on the basis of financial need and funds availability. At the present time, our Scholarship Fund monies can only be allocated in partial assistance grants.
To assist our Financial Aid Committee, The Washington Market School subscribes to the School and Student Services (SSS). The SSS is an independent organization that provides need-based analysis to help private schools determine the financial need of their applicants. Families wishing to be considered for financial aid must submit a Parents’ Financial Statement to SSS by January 31st of the same year you expect your child to start school.
The Washington Market School is also authorized to accept childcare assistance Vouchers from the NYC Administration for Children’s Services/Agency for Child Development (ACS/ACD). Please call the ACS/ACD directly at 311 for information. A family or parent who qualifies for a Voucher but is waitlisted must also submit a Parents’ Financial Aid Statement to the School and Student Services.
Important Dates
Morning tours will begin Wednesday, October 5, 2011 and will take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays through January 2012. These morning tours will be held at 9:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. at both sites. Afternoon tours (Duane Street only) will begin in November and will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays through January. The application deadline for the 2012-2013 school year will be Tuesday, January 31, 2012.
In accordance with the ISAAGNY calendar, admissions decisions for the 2012-2013 school year will be mailed Tuesday, February 28, 2012. The reply deadline for parents is noon on March 9, 2012.
Tour Request Form Information
Parents interested in having their child(ren) attend The Washington Market School in September 2012 must submit the Tour Request Form online (this includes sibling parents as well as parents who have attended a tour in the past). Please submit a separate request for each child you wish to apply. You can find the form here.You will receive an email confirmation once your request has been submitted. If you do not receive this confirmation then you will need to resubmit the tour request form. If you do not receive a call to schedule your tour within two weeks of submitting your request please call the Admissions Office to confirm that your request was received.
Please note that due to the large number of tour requests it could take up to 2 weeks for our Admissions Director to contact you to schedule your tour.

Information for families whose requests were drawn in the lottery:
- Families will be called within two weeks time (by October 27th) to schedule a tour of The Washington Market School.
- Application forms will be distributed during the school tour and are due by Tuesday, January 31, 2012 in order to be considered for the 2012-2013 school year.

Siblings and Legacies
Siblings and legacies* do not need to participate in the lottery process. Please speak to the Admissions Office directly to find out if a tour is required for your child.
- Sibling and legacy admissions applications will be due Friday, January 13, 2012.
- All sibling and legacy contracts will be mailed on Monday, February 6, 2012.
- The reply date for siblings and legacies is Tuesday, February 14, 2012.
*A legacy is defined as a child whose parent attended The Washington Market School.
